Challenge
A large-diameter supply aqueduct located under a historic reservoir was inspected and infiltration was documented at many of the pipe joints. The project required a small window for the system to be out of service and the aqueduct could not be fully drained due to the infiltration into the pipe system.
Engineered Solution
The HydraTite Internal Pipe Joint Seal was selected for its ability to promptly eliminate leakage during a limited work window, and its capacity of being installed over joints with active leaks.
Scope
Once the pipe was shut down, an inspection of the piping took place and a schedule was developed to prioritize the joints. HydraTech was then tasked with manufacturing the seals to the uncommon diameter of 117.5”. At the time of repair, the leakage was found to be more severe than originally expected so the number of seals was doubled. HydraTech manufactured and installed all seals on schedule.
Solution
The HydraTite seals eliminated infiltration at all joints and installation was completed during the three-week window. The HydraTite solution enables a trenchless repair at a fraction of the cost of alternatives. The HydraTite seal proved to be an economical in situ repair solution that made the operation of the aqueduct more cost-effective.
